As the relationship between Creighton University and Omaha grows stronger, CSU has strived to strengthen its bond with the Omaha community and the surrounging area as well.  Through programs such as the Creighton Savings Union, many Omaha businesses offer discounts to ID bearing Creighton students.  Though in the early stages of development, CSU hopes to make this a full fledged program in the near future, so as to make some of Creighton students' favorite places to eat around Omaha a little easier on the wallet.  The Creighton Student Union has also been cooperating with other student governments around the state, including UNO, Kearney, and UNL to lobby together to the Nebraska unicameral on LB-32.  This bill would make college text books tax exempt for all Nebraska college students.  JayWalk continues to peak the interest and incite the involvement of Omaha community members along with Creighton's own students, faculty, and staff.  This charity event has a history of bringing the Creighton family together with the greater Omaha community, as it continues to build momentum each year.

Part of CSU's mission statement is to "encourage members of the Creighton Community to contribute positively to the University and greater communities."  Through the aforementioned programs and initiatives, CSU has strived to lead  on this portion of its mission statement by example.  The Creighton Student Union will continue to search for opportunities to work with the Omaha community in order to strengthen the relationship between our university and the city in which it operates.
