Personal Response System

Some classrooms on campus are setup so that instructors can use PRS (Personal Response System) during class time. PRS allows instructors to get instant feedback from students during class, without interupting instruction. The system provides several levels of engagement and can be used as a simple polling device as well as an assessment tool.

Integrating into Powerpoint

PRS has three main pieces that make the system work. First is the software piece that is installed on the instructors computer. The software piece always an instructor to use his or her existing Powerpoint presentations, or create new ones, and turn them into questions that students respond to in class. The software allows an instructor to time the questions and even to give feedback to the students once the question is finished.

PRS Hardware

The second piece is the receiver. This piece of hardware that is connected to the classroom computer that recieves the signals from the students transmitters and sends them on to the computer software wher the student responses are recorded.

The last piece is the transmitter. Each student needs a transmitter in class so that they can respond to the questions that the instructor is asking. The transmitters allow students to answer multiple choice questions. And, depending on the system, the transmitters also allow the students to give short alpha numeric answers and even get confirmation that their answer has been recieved by the classroom computer.
