Creighton University School of Dentistry
A Welcome from Dean Latta
Welcome to the School of Dentistry’s web page. The Creighton University School of Dentistry is distinguished for its preparation of graduates who achieve excellence in the profession and who demonstrate an extraordinary compassion and commitment to the service of others in the Jesuit, Catholic tradition. The School has formed a remarkable legacy since its founding in 1905 – when it was highly regarded for being “unsurpassed in the West” – and continues that reputation today, as it enters its second century of excellence in dental education. The School’s reputation flourishes because it attracts and retains talented faculty members dedicated to teaching, clinical practice, ethics, service and research. Our vision for the future is to continue to provide a program noted for excellence in clinical education and service.
In 2011, the School of Dentistry celebrated an historic achievement with its 5,000th graduate. Students matriculate from throughout the nation, with nearly one of every three seeking admission to a dental school in the United States applying to Creighton. Consistent with the University mission, we enroll a diverse student body and have a particular focus on recruiting underrepresented minorities, especially Native Americans, into the profession.
We concentrate on educating general dentists and our students graduate prepared to deliver outstanding clinical care. Our graduates are also very successful in being accepted into graduate and specialty training programs.
Creighton students know they will receive an excellent dental education and outstanding clinical experience. They are challenged to reflect on transcendent values that will instill caring, ethical and moral components in their personal and professional lives, and to appreciate and respect the School’s ongoing commitment to make dental care accessible to the underserved. The School of Dentistry’s integrated vision of the world is inspired by our Catholic tradition and informed by our Jesuit heritage to educate the whole person-intellectually, spiritually and socially.
