Continuing Education

The mission of the Continuing Education Program is to provide an ongoing program which will serve the educational needs of the dental community. It is to provide dental professionals a means by which they can constantly update their knowledge in all phases of Dentistry, enabling them to provide their patients with the best in dental care. This can be accomplished, to some extent, through implementation of the goals and objectives as follows:

Goal I: Encourage Faculty Development

Objective 1: Work with the Associate Dean for Research to encourage each faculty member to participate in clinical research.
Objective 2: Encourage the faculty to share the results of their research with their colleagues through continuing education courses.
Objective 3: Provide a forum in which faculty members engaged in research can share the results of their endeavors with their colleagues.

Goal 2: Provide speaker/authorities from our faculty to outside dental groups concerning new technologies and treatment modalities.

Objective 1: Maintain and active "Speakers Bureau" of those faculty members willing to participate in continuing dental education programs.
Objective 2: Inform various local dental organizations of the existence of a speakers bureau and topics which are available.

Goal 3: Provide speaker/authorities from our faculty to non-dental groups concerning topics of general interest or concern.

Objective 1: Establish a "Speakers Bureau" of those willing to participate in this program.
Objective 2: Inform various schools, businesses, civic organizations, athletic organizations, etc. of the existence of this service.

Goal 4: Provide courses which will add to the knowledge and skill of practicing dentists.

Objective 1: Provide for hands-on courses whenever possible
Objective 2: Provide the local dental community with the opportunity to hear speakers who are leaders in their field from across the country.
Objective 3: Conduct continuing education courses by our faculty off-site.
Objective 4: Design and promote courses tailored to the strengths and talents of our faculty.
Objective 5: Maintain the continuing education advisory committee to: 1) assist in identifying areas of need, 2) assist in suggesting topics and speakers, 3) "sponsor" off-site programs and 4) serve as a policy-making body.
