WELCOME TO THE DEPARTMENT OF ORAL BIOLOGY
Our department is responsible for educating our dental students in the biomedical sciences. These sciences include: microscopic and macroscopic anatomy, physiology, biochemistry, microbiology, nutrition, and pharmacology. A complete health sciences education must include basic biologic principles that compose a core of information on the fundamental structures, functions and interrelationships of the body systems. This core then supports the concept that the orofacial complex is a critical anatomic area for the health and well-being of the entire body.
MISSION AND VISION STATEMENT
The Department of Oral Biology is part of the School of Dentistry to provide a solid foundation for our graduates to be proficient in providing the oral health needs of society. The basic science education experience offered by the Department is designed to be comprehensive and prepare the student to evaluate and implement knowledge in the field of Dentistry throughout their career.
The Department of Oral Biology is a link between the principles of scientific knowledge and the clinical application of that knowledge to improve the oral health of society. Our role is to serve our students, alumni and the entire dental community as a resource for rigorous evaluation of and instruction in fundamental biomedical science.
