Inaugural Dr. Simpson Award Presented

The inaugural Dr. Joseph M. Simpson III Award for Excellence in Aesthetic Restorative Dentistry was presented to Andrew Maples, DDS’09, during the School of Dentistry’s Senior Awards Ceremony on May 14.

The award honors the late Dr. Simpson, a 2002 Creighton dental graduate, who died Oct. 17, 2007, at the age of 33 from a rare form of high-grade neuroendocrine carcinoma.

Dr. Simpson’s widow, Karla Bloomquist Simpson, DDS’04, presented the award. The two practiced dentistry together in Gig Harbor, Wash. Dr. Simpson’s father, Joseph Simpson Jr., DDS’74, and sister, Melissa Simpson, JD’01, are also Creighton graduates.

Donations to the Dr. Joseph M. Simpson III Aesthetic Restorative Dentistry Scholarship Fund can be sent to the Office of Development, Creighton University, PO Box 3266, Omaha, NE, 68103-0266, in honor of Dr. Joseph M. Simpson III.
