Initiative: Lecture Capture has arrived!
Aug 25, 2010
In Spring 2010, the Division of Information Technology (DoIT)launched a campus pilot with several faculty members to evaluate potential technology and classroom configurations. The result of this is a lecture capture system we are calling "BlueCast". BlueCast brings faculty members the option to record their classroom lectures for students to study and review. Over the summer, the lecture capture system was installed in select classrooms across campus. A phased campus roll out will continue throughout the fall and spring semesters to eventually include all campus classrooms being lecture capture ready. The BlueCast lecture capture system includes the option to record video and audio in the classroom, as well as the computer desktop and any lecture presentation. These options can be turned off by the instructor. BlueCast is powered by Panopto.
Initiative: Password Resets and AMI Information
Aug 01, 2010
In continued efforts to support the security of Creighton University information and data and to add functionality for University students, faculty and staff, your active participation is needed. AMI (Account Management Interface), is the university directory and the way in which people find names, phone numbers, and locations of students /faculty/staff. AMI empowers individuals to modify their own contact information and to reset their own passwords, among other features. To improve account security and allow improved self-service, default doit@ passwords are going away as is the old ISO number based reset process. In its place is a reset process that will ask for security questions and an alternate contact email address. In order to do this, you will need to log into AMI and set up your security profile. If you have not completed your profile, each time you log into AMI you will be asked to create a security profile by selecting from a drop-down menu of questions and entering answers that only you will know. This process is similar to what your bank or credit cards may require to secure your accounts. The process takes only a few moments to complete and in addition to enhancing the safety of Creighton accounts and information, will enable you to reset your own password without having to contact the Service Desk for assistance. Take a few moments now to log on to AMI and set up your secure information. You can log onto AMI through the Creighton home page, click on the link or paste this link into your web browser: https://ami.creighton.edu/ If you have questions, please contact the Service Desk at 280-1111. Initiative: Area Codes Needed When Dialing
Jun 14, 2010
To ensure a continuing supply of telephone numbers, the Nebraska Public Service Commission has approved the addition of a new 531 Area Code to the geographic region served by the 402 Area Code. When changes will go into effect: • Current – until June 26, 2010 Continue to dial your local calls as you do today by dialing 9-XXX-XXXX. • Transition – after June 26, 2010 Permissive dialing period begins – you should begin using the new dialing procedure whenever you place local calls from the 402 Area Code. If you forget and use 7-digit dialing, your call will still be completed. • After February 26, 2011 All calls must be dialed with 10-digits. The mandatory dialing period begins and you must use the new 10-digit dialing procedure for all local calls. After this date, if you do not use the new dialing procedure, your call will not be completed. How will this affect Creighton University? -Creighton's area code will remain 402. -Because of the addition of the 531 Area Code, you will need to dial the correct Area Code followed by the 7-digit telephone number, when dialing any local call. -When dialing out from a Creighton phone line, you will still dial “9” first to obtain an outside line (Example: 9-402-280-2700). Questions? If you have any questions regarding this information, please call the Service Desk at Ext. 1111, Option 3.
