Exchange ActiveSync
Exchange ActiveSync is similar to the ActiveSync or HotSync used to synchronize a mobile device with a desktop except that it synchronizes directly to the server. This means that you do not need to be sitting at your desk or have your desktop turned on to synch your email.
System Requirements
- Must have a SmartPhone that is running Pocket PC 2002 or Pocket PC 2003 or a Treo 650
- Must be running ActiveSync 3.8 or later. ActiveSync 4.5 is available as a free download.
Setup from the desktop
- (You must already have ActiveSync installed)
- Place handheld in cradle. This will launch the “New Partnership” wizard.
- Select “Standard Parnership” and click Next.
- On “Specify how to synchronize data” select “Synchronize with Microsoft Exchange Server and/or this desktop computer” and click Next.
- On “Enable synchronization with a server” screen.
- Server name = cumail.creighton.edu
- Check the box for “This server uses an SSL connection”.
- Input user credentials where the user name is your netid the password is your Blue password and the domain is blue
- Click Next
- Check items to synchronize and click next
- Select appropriate setting for you on the “Select Number of Partnerships” screen and click Next
- Check any boxes that are wanted for synchronization setting with the desktop and click next
- Click Finish and the initial sync will begin. This will copy the server sync setting to your device so you can sync directly to the Exchange server.
- You can configure synchronization setting by following the instructions in the section for “Setup Exchange ActiveSync from your handheld device”.
Setup from a handheld device
- On handheld go the “Home” screen
- Open “ActiveSync”

- Click “Tools” at the bottom then click “Options”
- Switch to the “Server” tab at the bottom
- Set the “Use this server:” to cumail.creighton.edu and check the box for “This server uses an SSL connection”.

- In the Sync these items select those that you would like to sync. If you select Calendar or Inbox you can choose “Settings…” to set additional options for what you want to synchronize.
- Click the “Options…” button which will bring up the box below to enter your logon information. “User name:” is your netid. “Password:” is your Blue password and “Domain:” is blue. Check the box for “Save password” if you do not wish to enter your password every time you sync and/or would like to use automatic sync. Then select the “OK” button.

- On the “Mobile Schedule” tab you can set option for how often you want to sync your device with the server.

- Once done with the “Mobile Schedule” screen select OK to return to the main ActiveSync window.
- You can now click “Sync” to synchronize with the server or wait for the scheduled sync time if you configured an automatic sync schedule.
