Gathering using Typo3's Clipboard

Where to find the clipboard

The clipboard is available in either your filelist or in the List module.  It is not available in Page or View.  You'll find as you get more experience that you can do quite a lot from List and may find yourself no longer using "View".

When you first log into Typo3,  and you choose a page and List, you will get the simple view of the list of your pages and content.

In simple view the icons for copy/cut/paste are not available to use.

Check "Show Clipboard" and the clipboard will appear.  Normal is the default.  Normal is the regular method for single element method of copying and moving.

However, once you have checked the "Show clipboard" and clicked one of the 3 clipboards, the clipboard icons will display and you can use the clipboard functions to copy, move or delete content.

IMPORTANT NOTE:

Typo3 defaults to "Move Elements" in the clipboard.  It will retain "Move Elements" until you have transfered the elements you wish to copy to the clipboard and it will revert back to "Move Elements" if you move from one clipboard panel to another.  To ensure that "Copy Elements" is on, click the pages you wish to copy and click the "Transfer the selection of records to clipboard" icon.  Then change the "Move Elements" to "Copy Elements".  If you do not do it after you transfer the records to the clipboard it may change back to "Move Elements".

If you do happen to move them by mistake, they are easy to copy back.

Gathering Content

What do I mean by gathering content using Typo3's clipboard?  Using the clipboard feature you can copy content elements from several pages to paste onto one page.

Let's say you want to copy the content from two pages to place onto one page.

Adding content from another page.

Then go to the second (or third, or fourth) page that contains content you wish to add to that clipboard and copy them while staying in the same clipboard.  If you click on another clipboard, you can still paste this (or indeed any/all clipboard's) content onto one page, it's just an extra step or two.

Copy the content you wish from this page, it will show up in the clipboard with the content from the first page.

NOTE: although you can have files, pages and content elements in one panel of the clipboard, you can only past what is appropriate for where you are pasting them to; files into a folder in filelist, content/pages onto/into a page in the list module (see below for more about pasting content and pages at the same time).

Gathering pages and content at one time

Not only that, you can place both content and pages onto one clipboard and insert all onto and as subpages under one page with one click.

This time in addition to adding content to you clipboard, add pages.

Add pages - Click image for full size:

and add content to the same clipboard - Click image for full size:

Using the clipboard's panels

You can also use the clipboard's panels to assist in organizing what you are gathering then copying/moving.

Say you have content from two pages that you want to insert onto a third.  You can place the content from one page into one of the clipboard's panels.

Then you can place the content from the second page into one of the other panels

Now you can go to a page and paste in the contents from both panels.  NOTE: remember to change the "Move elements " to "Copy elements" if you are copying.  Typo3 may revert back to it's default of "Move elements".

Now click on Clipboard #2 (or what ever panel has the second set of files) and you can paste this into the same page.
