Where to find the clipboard

The clipboard is available in either your filelist or in the List module.  It is not available in Page or View.  You'll find as you get more experience that you can do quite a lot from List and may find yourself no longer using "View".

When you first log into Typo3,  and you choose a page and List, you will get the simple view of the list of your pages and content.

In simple view the icons for copy/cut/paste are not available to use.

Check "Show Clipboard" and the clipboard will appear.  Normal is the default.  Normal is the regular method for single element method of copying and moving.

However, once you have checked the "Show clipboard" and clicked one of the 3 clipboards, the clipboard icons will display and you can use the clipboard functions to copy, move or delete content.

IMPORTANT NOTE:

Typo3 defaults to "Move Elements" in the clipboard.  It will retain "Move Elements" until you have transfered the elements you wish to copy to the clipboard and it will revert back to "Move Elements" if you move from one clipboard panel to another.  To ensure that "Copy Elements" is on, click the pages you wish to copy and click the "Transfer the selection of records to clipboard" icon.  Then change the "Move Elements" to "Copy Elements".  If you do not do it after you transfer the records to the clipboard it may change back to "Move Elements".

If you do happen to move them by mistake, they are easy to copy back.

Copying the pages

To copy using the clipboard you need to have one of the clipboard panels chosen.

Then with the parent page highlighted in the pagetree, choose the pages you want to copy or move by checking the checkbox.  You can also check the √ above the column of checkboxes to select or deselect all pages.

Once you have records in your clipboard you need to change the default "Move Elements" to "Copy Elements".  Typo3 will default back to "Move Elements" if the clipboard is empty.

Pasting the pages

Once you have your pages in the clipboard you can paste them.

  1. Paste in clipboard content (this will be the only paste available if there are no subpages under the current parent page).
  2. Paste in clipboard content (this will paste the page at the top of the current subpages)
  3. Paste into: Page is inserted as subpage of this page
  4. Paste after: Page is inserted directly after this page.

If you are copying pages and not moving them, once you pasted the page(s) where you want, they will remain on your clipboard.
