Creighton Students

A shortcut page is a page that redirects the user to a page within our Typo3 server.  That is any page that starts with  Pages that have a different preface than www, like and (if you are not on the Medical School Typo3 server) are considered external links as are sites like   Page that are links to actual documents (like a handbook in pdf format) are also external links, even though the document is stored on Typo3.

See Page properties - Shortcut for more information on what options or attributes you can give a shortcut page.

General Tab

  1. Type - this would change the standard page to another of the different page types available.  You can choose Standard, Shortcut, Mountpoint, External URL, SysFolder, Recycler or Visual menu separator.
  2. Layout - This is unused by Creighton and is not available on the Medschool server.
  3. Last Updated - There are places (Creighton Newscenter for example) that display the most recently updated news stories.  This field could be used for that.  However we use an internal field to check the most recently updated.
  4. New until - this is just for editor housekeeping and is not used by Typo3.  You can enter a date in here if you want to do something to the page after this date.
  5. No search - Creighton does not use Typo3's internal search and this is not available on the medschool server.  The size of the Typo3 installation is so large that using Typo3's internal search caused Typo3 to stutter, cough and occasionally crawl to a stop.  If we did use the internal search, this would exclude the current page from those results.
  6. Hide page - If the page is hidden it can only be accessed through typo3, it will not be available to the public
  7. Hide in Menu - If you have a page that you want available to the public but don't want it in the menu, check this.  You can link to it and display it, it just won't appear in any menu (unless you ask us to override this).
  8. Pagetitle - the actual name of the page.  This is what people will see in the address of the site and page.  Please see Naming pages for more information.  The field will hold up to 255 characters.
  9. Alias - This is not used by editors or site owners.  It is a way of giving a page a named unique ID rather than a numbered unique ID.  We've used it on the programming side but you shouldn't need to use it.
  10. Target - Let's say you have one page that you want to open into a new window.  You would put "_blank" (without quotes) into this text box (the checkbox next to it will check automatically).  This is actually not often used in conjunction with a standard page.  You would be much more likely to use it with a shortcut or an external URL to have that page open in a new window.
  11. Subtitle - Although not all sites use Subtitle, you can ask for it to display on your page.  An example of this is at the top of this page "Page Properties - Standard".  I could put anything in this field, it can be as long as you wish (up to 255 characters).
  12. Navigation Title - this is what will be seen in your menu.  Here you can put a "/" between words.  If you do not have a navigation title, the pagetitle will be used. While not suggested as it will wrap in your menu this field can hold up to 255 characters.

Shortcut Tab

  1. Shortcut to page - this is where you select what page you want this to go to.  If you want to have a shortcut to another site within Typo3 (any site that starts with is in Typo3), say for instance a shortcut to Financial Aid, someone on the webteam can do that for you.  There is a reason to actually do this as opposed to using an external URL (which will work).  If for some reason, that site/page moves to another level a shortcut to it will always find it but an external URL will not as the address has changed.
  2. Shortcut mode (not available on the Medschool server) - you may never use this but it is there and does work.  First subpage will take the user to the first subpage that is under the Current page, not the page that you have listed in "Shortcut to page". Random subpage will do just as it says, it will pick a random page under what you have in the "Sortcut to page" and display this.  Might be used for random thoughts of wisdom?

Access Tab

  1. Start - If you want this page hidden but to show on a certain date, you can put that date here. NOTE: the format is Day/Month/Year.  And the effective time is midnight of that date.
  2. Stop - If you wanted this page to become hidden on a certain date, you can put that date here. NOTE: the format is Day/Month/Year.  And the effective time is midnight of that date.
  3. Selected (and Items) - this is used when there is information on that page that would be limited to a certain group of people who had to login to see it.  It is used in conjunction with a login.
  4. Include Subpages - This could be used with a login or it could be used in conjunction with a stop date to hide a entire section of your site.
