Keep Your Computer Patched
Keeping your computer patched is one of the easiest steps you can take to ensure you stay virus and malware free! Most viruses and trojans exploit vulnerabilities in either your operating system or, with increasing frequency, web software you use on a daily basis. Some examples of commonly exploited applications include:
- Adobe Flash [get latest version]
- Adobe Acrobat [get latest version]
- Microsoft Office [microsoft update]
- Java [get latest version]
- Your web browser (Internet Explorer, Firefox, Safari, and Chrome)
Some of these applications will automatically update themselves for you (or at least remind you when updates are available). Make sure you've got them configured to do this wherever possible so you don't have to remember.
