VPN Tutorial - Starting with VPN

Downloading VPN Software

The first step you will need to take will be to download the software from the VPN resource page. If you are not able to get to the internet, you may use a CD (it is the anti-virus disc,) which can be borrowed from any one of the libraries on campus. (However, you will need the internet in order to use VPN.)

When you go to the site listed above, you will find a link to VPN Client Software in the middle column under "Be Safe". Click on that link. You will then need to click the link determined by which version of Windows you have. Most likely, you will use the Version 4.0.1 (BLUE). When you click on that link, you will be asked if you want to run (open) or to save the program. If you save the program to somewhere on your computer, you will need to go to that location after it is downloaded and run the .exe file to install the program. The advantage to doing it this way is that you have the program on your computer to reload if you ever have that need. (I created a VPN folder in my Program Files and saved it there.)

If you have saved it, you will need to go to the location you saved it to and click on the file to install it. The file will have a title and icon that looks like this:

Once you have clicked on this, you will be asked to approve the download. Say yes and continue. Once the program is installed, it will need to reboot your computer. To see how to run this program, go on to the next page, Running EAsyAccess VPN.

Running EasyAccess VPN

To find the program, go to the Start button, click on All Programs, then find "EasyAccess VPN Client". Hovering over that name will give you four options. You want the EasyAccess Dialer. When you click on that, you will see the following screen.

Click on Connect. (If you are on campus, you will receive an error message stating that the connection has been terminated. This is because it doesn't work on campus since it doesn't need to. This program is for establishing a secure connection for use off campus.)

Now you will see a screen asking you to verify your user name and password. In the field for user name, type in your net id. Then for the password, use your Blue password.

(If you cannot remember your net id or password, you may contact DoIT Support at 280-1111.)

The next message will let you know that you are connected! Click continue. A little icon that looks like a lock will show up in the bottom right of your computer screen, in the system tray. This just means you are connected in this secure system.

To disconnect from the VPN system, right click on the Lock icon in the lower right hand side of the system tray.

Select Easy Access Dialer.

Click on Disconnect, then close the window.

Next we will look at how to map a Network Drive to your computer
