Storm Shelters

Please familiarize yourself with the storm shelters located in academic buildings and residence halls.  Follow the emergency procedures in the event of a tornado or severe storm. 

  • Ahmanson Law Center: Gross Appellate courtroom.
  • Alumni Library: Basement area except window areas on the west side, and hallways adjacent to Instructional Technology and the Union Pacific Room.
  • Becker Hall: Lower corridor between Gallagher Hall and Kiewit Hall.
  • Bio-Information Center: The areas adjacent to the elevator, and interior rooms.
  • Boyne Building: Bottom floor, interior hallways away from windows.  Also locker/restroom areas, lecture and office rooms 112, 113, 116, 131, 137, and 149.
  • Brandeis Hall: Lower level interior, south side away from windows.  (Alternates -- basements of Deglman and Swanson Halls.)
  • Campion House: Basement.
  • Cardiac Center: Basement interior areas.
  • Center for Health Policy & Ethics: Offices and stairwell in the rear of the building away from the main entrance.
  • Child Development Center: Go to the interior tornado shelter within the Center.
  • Clinics: Where basements are part of the building, go to the basement.  Where no basement is available, go to the interior of the building and away from glass.  Please refer to postings in each clinic.
  • Creighton Hall (Administration Building): All floors, Business Office vaults, east and west corridors on the north side of the building; Jesuit residence, center (east and west) hallways.  Room doors must be kept closed.
  • Creighton University Medical Center: Follow the CUMC Emergency Procedures.
  • Criss Complex
    • Criss I: Lower hallway and classrooms of the Rigge Science Center.
    • Criss II and III: Entire basement.
  • Davis Square: Basement Room B15 in the west building.
  • Deglman Hall: Basement areas away from windows.
  • Eppley Building: No shelter available.  Go to the Alumni Library.
  • Gallagher Hall: Basement, away from windows.
  • Gymnasium (Old Gym): Interior hallways away from windows.  Athletics: locker rooms, shower rooms.
  • Harper Center: Lower level of the Bookstore; restrooms and interior hallways away from windows.
  • Heider Hall: Garage area.  Stay clear of the entrance door.
  • Hitchcock Communication Arts: None. No shelter available. Go to Skutt Student Center.
  • Hixson-Lied Science Center: Interior rooms on ground floor away from glass.
  • Humanities Center: No shelter available.  Go to Rigge Science hallways and classrooms on lower level.
  • Ignatius House: Lower level of the building in interior rooms away from windows.
  • Jahn Building: Interior rooms away from windows.
  • Jelinek Building: Rooms 142, 143, 145 and small conference room 139.
  • Kellom Plaza: Interior rooms away from outside walls.
  • Kenefick Hall: Garage area.  Stay clear of entrance doors.
  • Kiewit Fitness Center: Locker rooms, restrooms, and tunnel between Swanson Hall and the Fitness Center
  • Kiewit Hall: Basement, away from windows.
  • Kitty Gaughan Pavilion: Bottom floor, locker/restroom areas.
  • Linn/Labaj Buildings: Bottom floor/interior rooms; tunnel between buildings.
  • Lied Center for the Performing Arts: Bottom floor, interior, away from glass.
  • McGloin Hall: Bottom floor interior rooms away from glass.
  • Markoe Hall: Conference Room 111.
  • Military Science (ROTC): Lower level vault.
  • Morrison Soccer Stadium: No shelter available.  Seek shelter in nearby campus facilities.
  • Murphy Building: Women's and men's restrooms, central portion of the building.
  • Opus Hall: Southwest corner of the building; lower level lounge area.
  • Pittman Building: Interior offices away from windows.
  • Retreat Center (Griswold, Iowa): Basement of dining hall; lower level rooms away from doors and windows.  See map in each building.
  • Rigge Science Hall: Hallways and classrooms on lower level and east stairwell away from glass.
  • Schneider Building: Center kitchen/restroom area between Human Resources and DoIT.
  • St. John's Church: Basement.
  • Skutt Student Center: Lower level in the ballroom.
  • Sports Complex: No shelter available.  Seek shelter in nearby campus facilities.
  • Swanson Hall: Basement, bottom two floors of the north stairwell.
  • Wareham Building: Lower level interior rooms away from glass.
  • West Campus: Interior rooms away from outside walls.

Tornado Safety Information:

  • In general, go to the lowest level of a building, away from windows and into a small interior room.
  • If you are outdoors, go indoors to the lowest level of a building.
  • If you are outdoors and unable to seek shelter, lie flat in a ditch or low spot and cover your head with your hands.
