EMT
This course is offered to anyone who wants to provide emergency medical care with an EMS service, fire department, or other healthcare setting. The curriculum provides for an early and continuing emphasis on patient assessment as well as reinforcement of the basic sequence of emergency care procedures. The EMT course follows the U.S. Department of Transportation Basic EMT curriculum, and consists of approximately 138 classroom hours in addition to performing ten patient assessments in the field.
Upon successful completion of the course, the student will be eligible to complete the National Registry EMT Computer Based Test. Students must have reached 18 years of age in order to take the National Registry examination.
This course may be taken for credit or certificate.

Additional Information
All EMT students must provide evidence of training equivalent to American Heart Association's Basic Life Support (BLS) for Healthcare Providers. We require certification that assesses both Cognitive (written) and Psychomotor (in-person skills testing session with an instructor) Skills related to BLS. Certification from organizations assessing Cognitive Skills only will not be accepted.
Recommended certifications include (but are not limited to)
- American Heart Association BLS for Healthcare Provider
- American Red Cross CPR/AED for the Professional Rescuer
- American Safety & Health Institute CPR Pro for the Professional Rescuer
Creighton University EMS Education does offer American Heart Association BLS courses.
Due to the nature of the field and clinical components of the EMT class, we are required to have you complete a certified background check of our choosing. Students are responsible for the cost of the check.
