Bachelor of Science in Emergency Medical Services
The Bachelor of Science in Emergency Medical Services (BSEMS) prepares students to be leaders and higihly skilled professionals in the emergency healthcare field. The bachelor's degree requires 128 hours fo coursework consisting of liberal arts core courses as well as 51 hours of paramedic coursework. In addition to the liberal arts core, students can expect to complete a rigorous paramedic curriculum that incorporates clinical and field training at the area's trauma centers and fire and rescue departments. In addition to the standard track, the bachelor's degree has two specialized tracks in pre-med and pre-nursing. Our graduates regularly go on to medical school, nursing school, and graduate programs in EMS and public health administration. Students should seek advising early and often in order to schedule the courses necessary to fulfill the pre-med science requirements.
Associate of Science in Emergency Medical Services
An Associate's degree (ASEMS) requiring 73 semester hours is also available.
Paramedic Certification
Applicants who plan on seeking paramedic certification but do not desire a BS degree may elect to take the Paramedic Certificate program. Students follow the one-year paramedic program, which consists of classroom instruction, clinical, field and skills training. Successful completion of the program prepares students to take the National Registry EMT-P certification examination. Entry into the Paramedic Training Program, whether as a credit, degree-seeking student or as a certificate-seeking student, requires successful completion of the EMT-Basic course and an entrance exam.
Continuing Education and Advanced Training
Creighton University EMS Education also offers many opportunities for advanced training and continuing education to help you maintain and update your skills and certification status. Certifications and Refresher courses are regularly offered.
