About the Curriculum
Curriculum Goals
- Develop and support quality educational, service and immersion opportunities in the Dominican culture
- Orient student, faculty and staff to the curriculum and the expectations of the program and the tie to Creighton University
- Ensure that the student's service, immersion and classroom learning are integrated through weekly seminars and corresponding assignments
- Monitor the academic, service and immersion experience by assessing agencies, field instructors and student's learning outcomes
- Provide students with a strong academic knowledge base to include an understanding of the cultural, political, sociological and theological aspects of the Dominican Republic
- Provide students an opportunity for immersion in the culture of the Dominican Republic and to develop knowledge, values and skills as it pertains to this culture
- Provide students with an opportunity to reflect on their knowledge and experiences in an organized and clear format under the supervision of the director of the program
- Develop and increase communication skills through use of Spanish
- Strengthen writing skills through a certified writing course
- Provide students an opportunity to engage in service whereby they will obtain practical knowledge, better understand the needs, gifts and issues associated with the Dominican culture, and demonstrate the values of a Creighton Jesuit Education
- Ensure that students integrate their academic, service and immersion experiences by producing academic projects that are evaluated by the faculty and program director
- Ensure evaluation of the students in coursework, service and immersion
- Develop and maintain strong ties with the Dominican Republic particularly with the local Jesuit community, the CESI Center and PUCMM University
