Classic Upward Bound


All services are free of charge! Typically, they may include, but not be limited to:

Academic Year Activities

Daily tutoring: Monday through Thursday from 3:00 - 6:00pm on Creighton's campus by Creighton University graduate and undergraduate students.

Saturday Morning Classes: First and third Saturday of each month. The sessions can include educational field trips and traditional classroom instruction by teachers from Omaha Public Schools, District 66 School District, and Community Artisit. 

Academic Advising: Participants are assigned a professional advisor who visits students in their school to monitor academic progress and assist in the removal of barriers to academic success.

Cultural Activities: Students participate in monthly activities designed to spark curiosity and increase their exposure to new ideas.

College Preparation: Juniors and seniors receive individualized assistance in college and financial aid planning. Services include college tours, ACT/SAT test preparation workshops, scholarship searches, and aid in completing college admissions and financial aid applications.

Summer Academy

A Six-week Residential Academy where students are exposed to college life by living on Creighton's campus. Students enroll in core courses (Math, Science, English, and Foreign Language) that are designed to give them a head start on the classes they will begin in the fall. The classes may be taught by Omaha Public Schools teachers, District 66 teachers, Community Liaisons, and/or University professors. Students also participate in elective courses designed to stimulate curiosity and excitement about learning. Example courses from previous years include the Swahili Language, Modern Dance, Chinese Culture, Art, Technology and Weight Lifting.

Bridge Program: Eligible graduates have the opportunity to take courses for college credit under the supervision and support of the Upward Bound program.

End of Summer Trip: Students who successfully complete the summer academy are invited to participate in a learning trip. Previous destinations include Washington, D.C., Los Angeles, Denver, Orlando, Minneapolis, New Orleans, and New Mexico.
