General Education Development (GED) & Adult Basic Education (ABE)

General Education Development (GED)

Classes are Tuesday-Thursday from 12:00 pm to 3:00 pm

EOC staff will assist persons seeking information or admission into our GED/ABE-Brush-Up classes. GED/ ABE-Brush-Up classes are for those persons who are seeking to obtain their high school equivalency diploma. We provide the tools to prepare students to take and pass their General Education Development test (GED). Classes are customized for each student. All classes are free of charge.

What are the tests like?

With the exception of one essay section and 20 percent of the mathematics section, questions on the GED test are multiple choice. The questions vary in difficulty and cover a wide range of subjects. Here is a breakdown of the test:

Language Arts:
Writing Skills (Part I) 50 questions, 75 minutes
Writing Skills (Part II) essay, 45 minutes

Social Studies:
50 questions, 70 minutes
Science:
50 questions, 80 minutes

Language Arts:
Reading  40 questions, 65 minutes

Mathematics:
Part I 25 questions, 45 minutes
Part II 25 questions, 45 minutes

English Second Language (ESL)

Classes are Monday-Wednesday from 10:00 am-1:00 pm

Non-credit ESL courses are intended for literacy level, non-English speaking students. The classes focus on basic English and survival English skills. Students who can already communicate in English should consider continuing to improve their English speaking and writing skills by enrolling in ESL courses.

Adult Basic Education (ABE) brush-up services

Individuals who have previously acquired their high school diploma may obtain additional tutoring to brush up or enhance their educational skills. These tutoring sessions are only offered by appointment.

Computer Lab

Monday - Thursday from 9:00 am to 4:00 pm

The EOC intends that the Computer Lab be used for the benefit of program participants to further their education. The EOC is sensitive to peak usage hours of the Lab and will notify participants if Lab is unavailable. The stations are to remain "as is". No software, browser plug-ins, or specific settings should be added or changed.
