Creighton University will celebrate and discuss the life and legacy of the Rev. Martin Luther King Jr. during its annual MLK Week, with a series of events Jan. 15-17 in advance of the national Martin Luther King Jr. Day holiday on Monday, Jan. 20.
This year's theme is inspired by King's 1967 and final book, Where Do We Go from Here: Chaos or Community?
This breakfast provides an opportunity to unite the community in the spirit of inclusion and fellowship in honor of the legacy of Martin Luther King Jr.
During the breakfast, the annual Drum Major Award will be presented to Doris Lassiter, president and CEO of Doris Lassiter Consulting, director of the Nebraska Center for Healthy Families Project, and former First Lady of Mount Moriah Baptist Church. Lassiter established the first Omaha Healthy Start Infant Mortality Reduction Program and Fatherhood Program in Nebraska. The event will conclude with guest speaker the Rev. James Hawthrone III, director of TRIO Veterans Upward Bound at Metropolitan Community College and assistant pastor at Zion Baptist Church in Omaha.
