Core Curriculum Review Task Force

CCAS Faculty Senate

&nb= sp;

Report

March 24= , 2009

The task force has met once since making its last report= to the senate, on Mar. 17, 2009. The task force reviewed the senate’s fe= edback to the proposed revised assessment rubric for CCAS Learning Outcome 5. In response to the concern of some senators that requiring all Core A Senior Perspective courses to measure student learning with respect to the propose= d fifth criterion of the rubric would require the courses to measure a learning objective that the courses are not required to achieve by the Core Curricul= um Blue Book, the task force decided to propose a new version of the revised rubric that includes a response of “not applicable” for the fif= th criterion. The new version of the rubric appears as an item for discussion = on the agenda of the present meeting.

Earlier this semester, the Executive Board charged the t= ask force to report on the size of major programs of study that have been introduced into the college curriculum since the current Core Curriculum was adopted in 1993. This information is only readily accessible for the period 2006-2009, when the Banner system has been in use. A report displaying all = new programs of study introduced during this period appears as an appendix to t= his report.  In reviewing this rep= ort, it is important to note that some new major programs listed include all prerequisite courses in their total hours, while others do not. =

The board has also charged the task force to report on t= he processes of core revision utilized by peer institutions that have recently revised their core curricula. A report summarizing the processes of core revision used at seven peer AJCU institutions that have revised their core curricula since 2003 appears as an appendix to this report. Detailed summar= ies of the new core curricula adopted at these peer institutions are available = upon request.

Respectfully submitted,

Kevin Graham
