PLUS Loan for parents of dependent undergraduate students

The PLUS loan is available to credit worthy parents to help the family cover educational expenses.

  • Fixed rate of 8.5%
  • Repayment begins after final disbursement.
  • For loans first disbursed after 7/01/2008, borrowers can postpone payments for up to 5 years while your student is enrolled at least 1/2 time. (You must request this forbearance annually.)
  • Parents can borrow up to the cost of attendance less other aid.
  • An origination fee (3%) will be deducted by the lender. A  federal default fee (1%) may be deducted by the guarantor.

If you wish to use one of Creighton's primary lenders, click on the lender name to complete your on-line PLUS MPN.  The last step of your on-line loan application will be an electronic message from the lender indicating if the loan has been pre-approved or denied. If your application is approved, the lender will send an electronic notification to the CU Financial Aid Office for certification. By law, loan funds cannot be disbursed prior to the academic term start date.

Parents wishing to borrow funds through the PLUS program in future years will need to contact their lender each year to complete a credit approval. Once the parent is approved, the lender will notify our office.

Many of the lenders listed below offer borrower benefits for the PLUS program.  Please review the terms on each lender's web site.
