Aid for Accelerated Nursing Students

Below, a short outline describes important information about financial aid specifically related to loan assistance and items to pay close attention to when accepting aid.

Step 1. Financial Aid in NEST

  • Check for missing documents
  • Accept aid offer, complete master promissory note and loan entrance counseling for the Federal Direct Subsidized/Unsubsidized loan program at Complete master promissory note for the Federal Nursing Loan at
  • Complete a private/alternative loan application (see steps below)
  • Track loan debt while attending Creighton University
  • Update mailing address
  • Agree the Financial Responsibilities Statement in NEST (required prior to registration)
  • View student account information
  • Create authorized user(s) in NEST
  • Sign up for electronic refunds

Step 2. Financial Aid Disbursements

  • August 14, 2019
  • January 8, 2020

Step 3. Refund (if you are receiving funds in excess of tuition and fees)

  • Generally available within 2 business days of disbursement
  • Must sign up for direct deposit to receive the refund by providing bank account information in NEST

Step 4. Student Loans

For Direct Loans with a first disbursement after July 1, 2019, the interest rate is fixed at 4.53% for the Federal Direct Subsidized/Unsubsidized loans. A 1.062% loan origination fee will be withheld from each disbursement. Interest accrues while you are enrolled in school for the Unsubsidized Loan. Both loans have a six month grace period upon graduation before repayment begins.

The Federal Nursing Loan has a fixed interest rate of 5% with no loan origination fees. The Federal Nursing Loan does not accrue interest while in school nor during the nine month grace period before repayment begins.

Students applying for Private/Alternative loans will need to select a lender and complete their loan application. Information and links to these Private/Alternatives loan lenders can be found here.

Step 5. 2020-21 Financial Aid

  • Must complete a 2020-21 FAFSA after Oct. 1, 2019, to receive aid for summer 2020 at
  • Aid will be disbursed when a student begins half-time enrollment each term
  • Students will need to complete a private/alternative loan application for summer after March 1, 2020
