Violence Intervention and Prevention Center

What is Violence?

The VIP Center defines violence as any action that has the primary motivation of asserting power, control, or intimidation over another person.  This includes threats, stalking, sexual assault, sexual harassment, bullying, and partner violence, including verbal, emotional, and physical abuse.

We are the coordinating office for advocacy, education, and prevention in the areas of:

·         Intimate partner violence

·         Sexual assault

·         Stalking/harassment

·         Bullying/Cyberbullying

What do we do?

Advocacy:  We provide support to individuals who have experienced violence, either directly or indirectly through a friend or loved one.  We provide information and access to campus and community resources and assist individuals in exploring options and making decisions.

Education: We provide trainings and resources on intimate partner violence, sexual assault, stalking/harassment, and bullying/cyberbullying.  Trainings are available for student groups, classes, administrators, and faculty.

Prevention: We are implementing a coordinated, campus-wide effort to help reduce violence by engaging bystanders and promoting positive, proactive behaviors.  Through these actions we will see a reduction in violence.
