For students in Argentina, Australia, Cambodia, Costa Rica, Ecuador, France, Germany, Ireland, Spain, Thailand, and the United Kingdom

March 10, 2020 - For Students in the Dominican Republic

On Wednesday March 11, 2020 President Donald Trump announced sweeping new travel restrictions on Europe.  The new rules will go into effect at midnight on Friday, March 13, 2020.  These restrictions include, among other things suspension of all travel from Europe to the United States for 30 days.  He also announced that "Americans who have undergone appropriate screenings" and travelers from the United Kingdom will be exempted from this restriction.

We communicated with students in Europe immediately via e-mail and through the AlertTraveler system urging them to consider their options and communicate their plans.

See the e-mail message HERE.

Clarification was provided in a later press release from the U.S. Department of Homeland Security:

  • The ban applies only to citizens from nations in the Schengen zone and not to Ireland or the United Kingdom.
  • Americans and US permanent residents who are in Europe will still be allowed back into the U.S. during the 30 day period.
  • Travelers will be screened upon entry into the United States and may face quarantine or restrictions on their movements in the US for 14 days to protect the health of their communities.

AlertTravel sent an update to students in Europe.  See the update HERE.

March 11, 2020- - For Students in Europe

On March 11, 2020 President Donald Trump announced broad travel restrictions from travelers from European countries within the Schengen Area. The U.S. Department of Homeland Security clarified the ban does not include U.S. citizens or permanent residents from returning to the United States.

Later, the U.S. Department of State announced a Global Level 3 Health Advisory: Reconsider Travel.  The U.S. Centers for Disease Control issued a Warning Level 3: Avoid Nonessential Travel alert for Europe.

Therefore, and in accordance with Creighton University's Travel Policy, we have requested that all students currently studying abroad or participating in other curricular and non-curricular programs return to the United States immediately.

Students are asked to return to their home address rather than to the Omaha campus. Their home states may have implemented screening and monitoring procedures for COID-19 disease, so they are advised to check with their home state's Department of Health.   A list for all States is available HERE.

Many students have already contacted us with a request you be permitted to remain in their host country to complete their academic term.  The unpredictability of the unfolding pandemic and of strategies various countries are instituting to contain the COVID-19 disease make it impossible for us to be reasonably reassured students will have the needed academic, personal and emergency services to complete their studies abroad.

Therefore, if you make the decision with your family that you wish to stay against our recommendation, you must complete this WAIVER The Global Engagement Office will continue working with you throughout your stay abroad, but cannot guarantee that your host in institution will not request you depart sometime in the near future.

Educational completion plans provided by host  institutions will be posted on this website as those institutions communicate with us.

See the message to students HERE.
