Non-Degree Seeking Students (or Special Student)
Want to take just one graduate-level course? Or are you a Creighton employee and want to take a few courses or a current undergraduate student nearing completion? Those who wish to pursue graduate study but are not candidates for a degree from Creighton may be admitted to the Graduate School as special students.
The number of hours earned as a special student that can be applied toward a graduate degree at the University varies from program to program, but may not be more than nine (9) hours.
Please note: As a non-degree seeking student, you will not be eligible for financial aid.
Undergrad seniors in their last semester may take up to 9 credit hours in graduate courses.
Process:
1. You must have received a bachelor's degree in order to be eligible to take graduate-level courses (or in your last semester of undergrad senior year). The Graduate School will verify that you have met this requirement. We may ask you to provide an unofficial transcript.
2. Figure out which graduate-level course you want to take.
3. Obtain permission from the instructor or the program director. You may locate the course instructor by searching in NEST and finding the course. The instructor will be listed there. Please forward the instructor's e-mail (which is their firstnamelastname@creighton.edu) with permission to us at gradsch@creighton.edu.
4. After permission has been obtained, fill out the Special Student form and those wanting to take a course in the Education Department, should fill out the Special Student form - Education. Submit the form, along with the $20 processing fee, to the address below, or drop off the form. This processing fee is a one-time fee. When/if you want to take another course, just obtain permission and let us know what you want to register for. You are limited, though, to 9 credit hours as a Special Student.
You will receive an e-mail from us verifying registration.
