The Graduate Student Government was initiated by a group of students who longed for a student government that would serve the interests of and foster a sense of community among graduate students.  By fall 2007, with the formation of a graduate student listserv and a draft of a Constitution, the GSG was well on its way to becoming a recognized Creighton student organization.

In December 2007, two former undergraduate Creighton Student Union members were nominated as President and Vice President.  They utilized their student government experience to assist with the implementation of formal organizational structures within the GSG, thus beginning the transition into an active and functioning Creighton student organization.

In need of additional officers and representatives, the GSG founders solicited participation from the graduate school community via word of mouth, informational sessions, and the graduate school listserv.  By January 2008, the GSG had a functioning Executive Board and a number of representatives from various programs.
