Hometown: Omaha, NE
Program of study: Theology

Why did you choose Creighton? To be honest, I never even looked at any other school...so take that as you will. But, for me, I didn't need to look anywhere else - I went to high school at Creighton Prep, had an older brother who went to Creighton for undergraduate, and I also completed my undergraduate degree at Creighton. As such, I had a pretty good idea of what to expect at Creighton. I was drawn to Creighton, quite simply, because of the incredible sense of community, Jesuit Catholic identity, and commitment to social justice.

What made you decide to pursue education in this program?  I knew I wanted to pursue education in theology upon entering Creighton. Faith was and continues to be a huge part of my life; and as such, it wasn't enough for me to just learn, think, or discuss such matters at the surface level that I was before. I wanted to really push the limits of my questioning, thereby coming to a deeper and personally genuine understanding, and thus experience, for my faith. Furthermore, I intend to teach high school upon completion of my Masters. For the education side of things, there were a lot of contributing factors. Namely: teachers had always been inspiring role models for me, a few professors at Creighton that directly impacted me, my experience in extra-curricular activities, payer, and a great amount of time developing my self-awareness.

What are your interests outside of graduate school?  My primary interest outside of graduate school would revolve around cooking and baking. I've spent time working in professional kitchens and commercial bakeries, but I also greatly enjoy doing these things on my own. Aside from this, I spend most of my free time reading or trying to improve my photography.

What experiences at Creighton have best prepared you for life after Creighton? In a simple phrase, "the experiences where I was actively present." Typically, these were the experiences that I wanted to have/the activities I wanted to be in, but that wasn't always the case. Looking back, I've come to find that the experiences that best prepared me were the ones I gave the most time, energy, and passion. This should be fairly obvious, but sometimes it is overlooked.

What is your most memorable experience at Creighton? It is difficult for me to select an experience that was the "most" memorable. One that I definitely will not forget however, was a silent retreat that I attended for personal discernment. I made the retreat over Easter break, spending several days at Griswold and several at Creighton. It was a formational experience and truly unforgettable.

What is one thing that you have accomplished that makes you proud? Though it is not really quantifiable, I think I am extremely proud of the way I have responded to the questions that challenge my way of life or thinking. I'm encouraged that I can look back and see growth because I had to wrestle with those questions; sometimes because I changed and other times because I was more steadfast, but growing regardless of the outcome.

What have you most enjoyed about your experience at Creighton? The relationships I have made are easily the one "thing" that I have enjoyed most about Creighton. Creighton truly is a community unlike any other that I have experienced. I have experienced only a handful of intimately close communities throughout my years, some admittedly even closer than Creighton. What is most astounding about the Creighton community though, is its "closeness" in light of its diversity. Creighton is made up of students, staff, faculty, administrators, visitors, parents, janitors, cooks, Jesuits, and many others...all coexisting together in one community. It is an amazing thing.

Are you involved in any community service activities? Throughout my time at Creighton, I've done a lot of different service activities. Going on service trips, within the US and abroad. Going to weekly service at places like Jesuit Academy, Omaha Boys and Girls Club, the Hope Center, Precious Memories Daycare, City Sprouts, and Micah House. I've also been involved in different activities/organizations that  participate in service such as the Freshman Leadership Program, the Cortina Community, Phi Delta Theta Fraternity, and others.
