Program of study: International Relations, emphasis in research design and analysis (RDA)
Why did you choose Creighton? I first came to Creighton University for my undergraduate education and was attracted by the schools' academic record, affordability and diverse opportunities. I have decided to further my education at Creighton because of the faculty; they are experts in their field, excellent mentors for students and excited to collaborate on research.
What made you decide to pursue education in this program? I was very impressed with the RDA's focus of study: integrating strong and diverse methodologies to answer substantive questions in political science.
What are your interests outside of graduate school? For the little free time graduate school grants me, I enjoy watching independent movies at Film Streams and the Dundee Theater.
What experiences at Creighton have best prepared you for life after college? My hope is that my life after Creighton will be more college, though in a Ph.D. program in Political Science. In this regard, Creighton has helped me fine-tune my critical thinking skills, engage in independent study, and, most importantly, realize how fun and exciting learning can be.
What is your most memorable experience at Creighton? My most memorable experience has been my involvement in the mathematics of uncertainty colloquium. The group comprises of professors and students from many disciplines and with very diverse backgrounds. It has been very rewarding to work with all of these individuals and collaborate on research.
What is one thing that you have accomplished that makes you proud? This year, I won a national award from Pi Sigma Alpha, the political science honors fraternity, for best student research paper. The paper used fuzzy spatial models to analyze coalition governments in parliamentary democracies across Europe.
What have you most enjoyed about your experience at Creighton? I have enjoyed the people the most. The faculty members are dedicated to their field and students, and the students are some of the brightest and hardest working in the country.
Are you involved in any community service activities? If so please specify. This past year, I served on the College of Arts and Sciences selection committee for undergraduate Research summer fellowships. In addition, for the past three years, I have been involved in a mentoring program in the journalism department that helps high school students apply for Gates Scholarships.
