Program of study: MA Theology with Teacher Certification
Why did you choose Creighton? I received my undergraduate degree from Creighton in 2009. When I was choosing a graduate program, Creighton was my obvious first choice! I loved my time here in undergrad and knew that a graduate education at Creighton would be just as amazing.
What made you decide to pursue education in this program? The MA Theology and Teacher Certification program is so unique and tailored to my needs perfectly. Graduate education is going to be extremely helpful for my career in both Theology and Education and is going to prepare me for teaching High School religion in a way no other program could.
What are your interests outside of graduate school? I live downtown and love walking around the Old Market with my roommate and enjoying all that downtown living has to offer! I am a huge fan of musical theater and never miss a show at the Orpheum Theater or Creighton’s Lied Center. When I need a break from studying, I will usually play guitar or read a novel (Harry Potter being my usual first choice!)
What experiences at Creighton have best prepared you for life after college? Creighton really does educate the whole person. In each of my classes, I am always able to apply what we have learned in the classroom to real life scenarios. I will always make it a point to educate the whole person when I am a teacher and have my own classroom.
What is your most memorable experience at Creighton? I am currently taking a class on Thomas Merton with Fr. Hauser. Each week, our class reflects on the teachings of this great writer and discusses how his experiences relate to our lives. Being able to bond with an entire class of graduate students and really get to know one another in the midst of a challenging academic environment has been truly great.
What is one thing that you have accomplished that makes you proud? Before starting graduate school, I had the opportunity to work for Catholic Charities at a residential facility for teenagers with drug and alcohol addictions. I was so proud of the students that I worked with, and being able to see several of them all the way through their recovery program was such a privilege.
What have you most enjoyed about your experience at Creighton? I have really enjoyed getting to know other graduate students in my program. We are a small group and so are able to bounce ideas off one another and journey through the program together!
Are you involved in any community service activities? If so please specify. I volunteer for a high school youth group called Young Life. I was involved in Young Life when I was in high school, so it has been really great to get involved as a leader.
