Maria DeMeuse

Hometown: Green Bay, WI
Program of study: Magis Catholic Teacher Corps MS Educational Leadership

Why did you choose Creighton? I heard about Creighton from a friend and when I came to visit, I enjoyed the University, its Catholic mission, and the beautiful history of the Jesuits under St. Ignatius.

What made you decide to pursue education in this program? I went to Creighton for undergrad and decided to remain at Creighton to study educational administration. Although I was unsure of going full force into administration immediately after undergrad, I see a great need for quality orthodox Catholic school leaders and game-changes who are complete in love with Jesus Christ and willing to form the saints of the new millennium. Too often, Catholic schools miss its very foundation - the person of Jesus Christ and we need quality administrators rooted in prayer to lead through their witness and skills in leading their entire building to heaven.

What are your interests outside of graduate school?  I enjoy running, daily Mass, reading, spending time with friends and family, watching the Green Bay Packers and Brewers, baking, playing soccer, and traveling.

What experiences at Creighton have best prepared you for life after Creighton? I have been greatly enlightened by Ignatian Spirituality and only hope that this time at Creighton acts as a catalyst for my learning and growing in my relationship with Christ and His Church. I also visited Uganda, Africa my sophomore year of undergrad and this opportunity has shown me the necessary foundation of the Eucharist in our service and justice.

What is your most memorable experience at Creighton? My most memorable experiences include learning how to be an effective and intentional Catholic school leader from our own Dr. Cook in the education department!

What is one thing that you have accomplished that makes you proud? Learning how to be a better teacher!

What have you most enjoyed about your experience at Creighton? I've really enjoyed the summers at Creighton - campus is just wonderful to be around and after living away from Creighton for two years, it is always great to come back and be present on campus. I have found great consolation in the availability of St. John's Church and am so grateful for the opportunity to visit the Blessed Sacrament at any moment.
