Doctorate in Education

The Interdisciplinary Doctorate of Education Program in Leadership is a major new development at Creighton University. The program is a flexible, online, interdisciplinary program which is intended to be a terminal degree program designed to provide graduates with understanding of the leadership practice, theory, research and policy necessary to develop organizations and people for a changing world.  In the tradition of a Catholic, Jesuit institution, students dialogue in an interdisciplinary environment designed to increase their understanding of how to work with, develop, and motivate others.

The concept of leaders as stewards of an organization is emphasized during each course and promoted through interactive online learning experiences.  Self reflection is encouraged and incorporated into each course and eventually integrated into a personal statement of one’s leadership vision. The program culminates in a final dissertation. Because the Ed D. is considered to be a “practice degree,” students in the program are encouraged to consider their workplaces as laboratories for the educational experiences they encounter in the program.

Creighton University strives to extend the student's range of knowledge through coursework and independent study, and to help students develop critical judgment, independent thinking, scholarly initiative, and the habit of disciplined inquiry. To this end, Creighton University offers a variety of graduate programs across an array of disciplines.  Whether your interests lie in business, nursing, education, the sciences or humanities, we encourage you to explore the options available at Creighton.

With over 25 different programs to choose from, we hope you find what you are looking for. Many programs also offer areas of specialization or concentration and these may be viewed by clicking on the general program title on the left.  In addition, some of these programs may be combined in a way that allows the student to complete dual degrees for fewer credit hours than would be required if obtaining two separate degrees.

Notice to Distance Students:  Creighton is fully accredited by the Higher Learning Commission, an approved regional accreditor. Due to new U.S. Department of Education regulations, registration of providers of online education programs and courses in states in which they have students residing is currently set to be required by July 1, 2014. The regulatory environment is currently in flux and the University will continue to monitor developments in state laws in each state in which it enrolls students. If specific authorization from a state becomes necessary, Creighton will work to obtain the necessary approvals. Many states do not require specific authorization or licensure for the their residents to enroll in online programs. Currently, institutions offering online programming are required to provide distance students a contact for each state in the event a student wishes to make a complaint about the distance program or course. For a list of what we believe to be current contacts, if you wish to make a complaint in your home state, please visit http://www.creighton.edu/onlinelearning/
