Charles Drew Earn-A-Bike

Charles Drew Earn-A-Bike

On Saturday, June 20th, Charles Drew Health Center presented its annual Earn-A-Bike program, to the community. Charles Drew Health Center will be giving away 200 new bikes, helmets and locks to children within the North Omaha community over the next 3 months. This is the first of 3 distribution events scheduled.

Students of Creighton University's Health Sciences Multicultural and Community Affairs Department in collaboration with the Center for Promoting Health and Health Equality's Racial and Ethnic Approaches to Community Health team were instrumental in making sure that the event was a success.  Our volunteer efforts included serving food, distributing bikes, assisting with bike safety and clean up.

This event was held from 9 a.m. to 1 p.m. at Charles Drew Health Center's fitness center at 2910 Burdette St.  To be eligible for a bike, helmet and lock, children must have completed four hours of community service and written a short essay about their volunteer experience and why they want a new bike.  Upcoming events are scheduled for July 18th and August 8th.  For more information contact Creighton University's Health Sciences Multicultural and Community Affairs Department @ (402) 280-3029 or visit our website:  https://healthsciences.creighton.edu/hsmaca
