Focus on Health Professions
The Focus on Health Professions Middle School Initiative is an after school program that introduces middle school students to the health sciences through a series of presentations on science and math.
Our program exposes students to biology, anatomy, and chemistry through a number of experiments, investigations, and dissections.
Specific topics covered are: the heart, the skeletal system, the digestive system, the brain, the lungs, the eyes and visual optics, the ear and understanding sound waves, blood types, DNA, cells and their functions, and teeth.
Students participate in open discussions regarding medicine and health careers with students in the health professions. It is through these discussions and presentations that students learn how to enter a career in the health professions and the different specialty fields to choose from.
In addition, we offer tutoring at local middle schools after school. Students in the schools of health professions volunteer to tutor middle school students.
