HS-MACCA Mentoring Program

 

"Mentor" in Greek mythology means:
Offering wisdom and kind support to someone with less experience

INTRODUCTION

Mentoring is the process of providing younger and less experienced individuals support, counsel, friendship and constructive example in order for them to succeed in life

Objective:

To provide participants in the HS-MACA programs formal and
informal opportunities for counseling, mentoring and group support

METHODS:

  • Student / Mentors are matched by program coordinatoR
  • Mentor contacts the mentee to arrange the first meeting
  • On-going contact
  • HS-MACA sponsors social occasions to foster mentoring relationships

EFFECTS OF MENTORING ON THE MENTOR:

  • Enjoyment
  • Role modeling opportunities
  • Positive influence on another person's life
  • Opportunity to reach out and give back

EFFECTS OF MENTORING ON THE MENTEE:

  • Assistance with career direction
  • Support and encouragement in developing own knowledge and skills
  • Gain advice from someone who has been in similar situations 
  • Establish a possible lifelong relationship with a member of the Creighton family


GUIDELINES FOR MENTORS:

  • Provide guidance
  • Encourage professional development
  • Provide the tools for advancement
  • Show interest in the academic endeavors of the mentee - encourage excellence
  • Provide guidance on life's complexities
  • Encourage responsibility and accountability

RESULTS:

  • Improvement in academic performance of mentee
  • Enhancement of interpersonal relationships
  • Mutual feelings of honesty and respect
  • Rewarding and enriching experience for all involved
