What is PubMed and who makes it?
PubMed is the search interface provided for MEDLINE by the National Center for Biotechnology Information in partnership with the National Library of Medicine.
- MEDLINE is the premiere database for finding articles about biomedical research and clinical care in the English language. MEDLINE provides the strongest coverage of medicine, dentistry, and the health care system and the delivery of health care. MEDLINE also indexes articles on all aspects of the life sciences and physical sciences as they relate to health care. Other strong areas include nursing, complementary medicine, public health, veterinary medicine, and bioethics.
- MEDLINE contains more than 16 million entries and includes articles from 1950 to the present with more than 5 thousand journals currently indexed.
- MEDLINE is produced by the National Library of Medicine at the National Institutes of Health.
PubMed provides unique tools for linking to similar information in other databases provided by the National Center for Biotechnology Information. There are hyperlinks for jumping to genomic and protein sequence databases, and the PubMed Central archive of articles written about NIH funded research.
