New edition of User's Guide to the Medical Literature

The third edition of Users' Guides to the Medical Literature: A Manual for Evidence-Based Clinical Practice is now available in JAMAEvidence.

From the preface,

...The emphasis is now on preappraised resources and particularly on the successor to medical texts: electronic publications that produce updated evidence summaries as the data appear and provide evidence-based recommendations for practice.

Awareness of the importance of preappraised evidence and evidence-based recommendations is reflected in other changes in the third edition. Tornado Drill on Wednesday, March 25

The University will hold a very important campus-wide emergency preparedness event on Wednesday, March 25th at 10:35 a.m. in conjunction with Severe Weather Awareness Week. A Creighton Alert will be issued to communicate a test tornado warning. Students, faculty and staff are asked to take appropriate action including going to the shelter area in the basement of the Health Sciences Library.

Although no all-clear announcement will be made, we anticipate the entire exercise will last about 10 minutes. The dental clinic will not participate as they already have their own emergency drills in place.

The Douglas County sirens will sound at 10:10 a.m. in accordance with the scheduled test of the warning system. Please disregard the sirens since our test is later.

Library access issues

Revised 12:30 pm February 23, 2015

We have word from Cox that they believe the errors have been addressed. Please let us know if you are still unable to reach the library or other Creighton servers.

Thank you for your patience and understanding.

In the early hours of Saturday morning a Cox server malfunctioned causing misdirection of web traffic for *.Creighton.edu internet addresses. The problem is being worked on. Unfortunately it may take several hours to be completely resolved. (It may be resolved as of 12:50 am 2/23/15 although no official all clear has been given.) In the meantime, if you need access to library resources; installing and using the VPN software seems to get around the problem. You can get the VPN software at: http://doit.creighton.edu/network-security/connecting-network/vpn-virtual-private-network. You can read more about VPN at: http://doit.creighton.edu/wireless-networking/vpn-virtual-private-network/vpn-faq. Once connected to VPN you should be able to use the links on the library website as usual. Thank you for your patience, we are sorry for your inconvenience.
