MHIRC: The Multicultural Health Information Resources Center

What is the MHIRC?

The Multicultural Health Information Resources Center (MHIRC) is a component of the Center of Excellence at Creighton University School of Medicine, funded by a grant from the Health Resources and Services Administration. The purpose of the MHIRC is to help the medical students, medical faculty, community health care workers and the general public understand issues concerning minority health care and health disparities among people of different socioeconomic and cultural backgrounds.

What is the MHIRC Library Resource Collection?

A collection of multimedia materials, books, journals and web resources that focus on minority health concerns. The collection is managed by the Creighton University Health Sciences Library / LRC. The Library also sponsors educational programs and training workshops.

  • The IHS Primary Care Provider
    • The IHS Primary Care Provider is a monthly publication of the Indian Health Service (IHS) Clinical Support Center. The goal of The Provider (as it is commonly referred to) is communication. It targets health care professionals including, among others, physicians, nurses, pharmacists, dentists, and dietitians.

    • The Journal of the National Medical Association is the primary source for specialized clinical research activities related to the health problems of African Americans and other minority groups in the inner cities. Special emphasis is placed on the application of medical science to improve the health care of underserved populations both in the United States and abroad. The journal has the following objectives: to expand the base of original peer-reviewed literature, recognizing the need for greater dissemination of information; to offer appropriate and timely recognition of the significant contributions that physicians who serve the underserved populations are making in the quest by medical science to improve the health of all people; and to sustain interest by member and nonmember physicians in the overall goals and objectives of the National Medical Association.
