As a freshman, what do I need to know about preparing to apply to medical school?

1.  A successful med school applicant is well-rounded (clinical experience, volunteerism, leadership).  Try to gain experience in each of these areas as early as possible.  You don't want to find out junior year that you might not want to do this for the rest of your life.

2.  One bad grade does not ruin a medical school application.  If possible, retake the class and improve your grade.  If not, consider why you made that grade and be prepared to tell an admissions committee about it honestly and openly.

3.  Have fun with the process!  A lot is expected of a med school applicant, but that shouldn't mean you can't enjoy what you do.  Be willing to major in something you like and involve yourself in activities that interest you.  There is no perfect applicant.  Feel confident in being yourself!"
