What is a resume and why is it important?

A resume is a professional document outlining your college experience.  A resume can be used for the following:

-          Applying for volunteer, shadowing or research positions

-          Searching for a job or internship

-          Providing documentation to individuals who are writing letters of recommendation

-          Applying for scholarships and fellowships

-          Applying for graduate or professional school

Resumes must look professional, be easy to read and well written.  A resume should be written during the sophomore year and updated every semester.  It should be tailored specifically for the intended purpose (i.e. job search, applying to graduate school, shadowing, etc.).   Sample resumes and additional information can be found on the Career Center website.

Who should I contact for assistance?

The Creighton Career Center (CCC, Harper Center, Suite 2015) offers resume writing assistance. Before scheduling an appointment with a career counselor, consult the resume writing guide and sample resumes on the Career Center's website.

The resume writing guide and sample resumes can also be found in the Career Center Manual which is available, free of charge, in the Career Center. You may pick up a copy any time in the Career Center.
