President's Wellness Vision Statement
As a Jesuit, Catholic university, Creighton was founded in 1878 on traditions and values that have guided it through the decades. Some of those values and traditions include Jesuit principles such as striving for excellence for the greater glory of God; care and concern for students, patients, faculty and staff; a spirit of community that call for respect and partnership; and a commitment to serivce. These ideals are the core of the mission and vision of Creighton, which is to form leaders for a more just world as a Catholic and Jesuit comprehensive university committed to excellence in undergraduate, graduate, and professional programs.
One of these ideals, cura personalis (Latin for care of the individual person), especially speaks to our Wellness Program, which supports our mission by working to improve the physical, spiritual, intellectual, social, emotional and environmental dimensions of health. We invest heavily in wellness because we believe healthy and well employees are more engaged and productive in fulfilling our mission.
I personally have three passion in my life: faith, education and health. My father was a physician who was educated at Creighton, so my exposure to the importance of health came at an early age. I have always exercised, watched my diet and been a nonsmoker, so it is a privilege for me to help instill these habits in Creighton employees. As president of Creighton, I see it as my duty - indeed, my calling - to help the University fulfill its educational, faith-based mission by providing a healthy, wellness-oriented workplace for all employees.
