Joan Lanahan
Chaplain, Creighton University
Employed since 1987, always in the capacity of a chaplain, Joan fulfills the award categories of spiritual, physical and emotional. In the emotional category, she has helped many of the employees by her listening and caring and non-judgmental attitude. Her spiritual realm includes membership in the University Bereavement Committee and her many years of work within the Catholic Church in Christian Life Communities. As a cancer survivor, Joan knows the benefit of good health and she stays healthy by swimming several times a week and is careful to eat properly. She is also a long-time member of the Campus Wellness Council.
Alice Smith
Information Technology Department, Creighton University
Alice enhances wellness on campus and the community through her caring and nurturing nature, and is a definite ‘giver’ of her time and talents. She and her family regularly volunteer for service trips each spring, and she founded and directs the bereavement group on CU’s campus, as well as the group at St. Margaret Mary Catholic Church. Alice is well known throughout campus and has helped countless faculty and staff improve their computer skills through the various courses that she teaches. Not only is Alice a role model when it comes to spiritual, emotional, and social wellness, but she is also an avid runner and, therefore, is an excellent role model when it comes to physical fitness. As a Master’s lever runner, she has participated in several marathons throughout her life.
