Weight of the Nation

In the United States, 68% of adults and 32% of children and adolescents are overweight or obese.

At the Creighton 2012 SimplyWell health screenings, 64% of our employees are at risk due to an unhealthy body weight.

Obesity contributes to 5 of the 10 leading causes of death in America, including heart disease, type 2 diabetes, many cancers and stroke. As part of our effort to help combat the obesity epidemic of our Creighton community, we hosted a screening of the four-part HBO documentary called The Weight of the Nation.  Let's join together to become a healthier campus!

Three years in the making, THE WEIGHT OF THE NATION is a four-part documentary series, featuring case studies and interviews with leading experts and with individuals and families struggling with obesity.  The series spotlights the fact and myths of this urgent public health issue, showing how obesity affects the health of the nation and cripples the health care system - and what individuals and communities can do.
