Intensive English Language Institute (IELI) Overview
Since 1979, the IELI has been helping students from different language backgrounds become fluent in English. Core courses in reading, writing, speaking/listening and grammar focus on language skills across seven proficiency levels--from high beginning to advanced.
Computer Assisted Language Learning (CALL) laboratory sessions reinforce what is learned in the classroom and co-curricular activities provide the cultural context for the practice of language skills learned. Special workshops and courses, including "Study Skills", "TOEFL Preparation" and "Time Management", further prepare students for academic success.
IELI classes meet 4-5 hours a day, Monday through Friday, beginning at 8:30 a.m. and ending at 3:30 p.m., for a total of 21 hours per week. Five terms of eight-weeks each are offered each year. Small classes allow the IELI instructors to focus on each student's needs.
The mission of the Intensive English Language Institute at Creighton University is to help students from different language backgrounds to:
- Communicate effectively in English
- Deepen their understanding of the U.S. culture and
- Prepare for the rigors of undergraduate and graduate studies
