Creighton University?s affiliate program in Limerick, Ireland is open to a limited number of students each year. CU students may choose to participate during a Fall or Spring semester of study at the University of Limerick. The University of Limerick is located on a riverside campus in the heart of the 600 acre National Technological Park at Plassey, three miles above the ancient city of Limerick. Over 6,000 full-time and 3,000 part-time students are enrolled at the University of Limerick. The University of Limerick has been receiving study abroad students for over 15 years. Visiting students are fully integrated into the student body and take courses alongside Irish students.
Eligibility: Minimum 2.9 GPA. Students must also meet all other study abroad eligiblity requirements at outlined in Creighton's Study Abroad Policies & Procedures.
Financial Aid: Participants will pay tuition, room, and fees directly to Creighton University and receive the equivalent at the University of Limerick. Students will be responsible for meals, an accommodation deposit, and all traveling expenses. If eligible, institutional aid and federal financial aid are portable. However, once the Creighton aid is subtracted from Limerick?s total bill, there must be at least $3,000 that is paid by federal aid or out of pocket. Tuition Remission and FACHEX Tuition Exchange may be portable, but are subject to the $3,000 clause as stated above. Please check with the CU Financial Aid Office for specific inquiries. Participants are also required to purchase Creighton's insurance for international activity (purchased through OIP). and receive the equivalent at the University of Limerick. Students will be responsible for meals, an accommodation deposit, and all traveling and personal expenses. Students are also required to purchase Creighton?s insurance for international activity.
Courses: Students are required to take a minimum of 15 credit hours (5 courses) while at the University of Limerick. There are a wide variety of courses to choose from in all 6 of UL's colleges: Business, Education, Humanities, Engineering, Informatics & Electronics, and Science. Program Duration: FALL semester usually runs from mid September to late December. SPRING semester usually runs from late January to mid May. Students will receive exact arrival dates and an academic calendar upon acceptance.
On-Site Assistance: The International Office at the University of Limerick will support you throughout your stay. Prior to the beginning of each semester, they also host a two-day mandatory orientation to the university and city. The staff in the international office are all very helpful and will be glad to assist you with any questions that you have.
Excursions: The Study Abroad Office at the University of Limerick organizes three trips for students per semester. Each of these trips lasts for one day, and they are to Dublin, Cork and the west of Ireland. Students are encouraged to travel independently as well, and the International Society at UL often plan trips throughout the semester for interested students.
How to Apply: Students must first complete the CU Proposal to Study Abroad and the CU Study Abroad Course Approval Form (internal documents). Once these are complete, students will then receive the University of Limerick application (external document) from the Study Abroad Coordinator. The students who are chosen for participation will be notified and their application will be sent on to Limerick for final approval.
Deadlines: The CU Proposal to Study Abroad for Fall semester participation is March 1st and for Spring semester participation is October 1st. However, because there are a limited number of spots on this program it is strongly recommend that interested students submit their Proposals as early as possible.
