Help to Form Spiritual Fathers
The Institute for Priestly Formation (IPF) was founded to assist in the spiritual formation of diocesan priests and seminarians in the Roman Catholic Church. For contemporary priests, the “one thing necessary,” a vibrant spiritual life, can easily be lost in the midst of the many demands on a priest’s time. In this regard, Pope Benedict XVI recently posed this question to priests: “How to preserve interior unity amid the often frenetic activity of ministry?” In answer he stated: “The way toward a solution to this problem lies in intimate communion with Christ, whose food was to do the will of the Father.” The Institute for Priestly Formation’s mission calls us to help provide this solution.
The Present:
- IPF is the only program of intensive spiritual formation for diocesan priests that has a national outreach
- IPF provides support to bishops in the area of priestly spiritual formation, fulfilling the need to help seminarians and priests become well integrated men growing in holiness
- Currently nearly 25% of all future diocesan priests/pastors are being served by IPF’s summer programs of intensive spiritual formation
- Over 150 dioceses in the United States, Canada and beyond have been served by IPF’s mission
The Future:
The Institute for Priestly Formation is embarking on a deepening commitment to help make spiritual formation the heart of all priestly formation. Our new programming will help those personnel who are responsible for priestly formation. This “train the trainers” initiative will impact not only priests and seminarians themselves but those formators who are called to guide them in their desire for a deeper spiritual life. As this initiative grows and expands, even internationally, we will need additional staff members and a new training center to house this vital need for the Church of the 21st century.
