Creighton Dental Students Offer Life-Saving Oral Cancer Screenings
OMAHA, June 8, 2009 - Creighton University School of Dentistry students will offer free oral cancer screenings Saturday, June 13 from 8 a.m- 4 p.m. at the Charles Drew Health Center, 2915 Grant St. In addition to the 10-minute, painless, life-saving screenings, participants will receive tooth brushes, toothpaste and a referral list of where further care can be received. The event is free and open to the public. Participants will be taken on a first-come, first serve basis.
More than 35,000 Americans were diagnosed with oral cancers of the head and neck last year; with about 20 percent dying from these diseases. Unfortunately many Americans do not recognize the symptoms of these life-threatening diseases.
