The main features of the program:
- 12 hours of MBA course work can be applied to the JD degree
- 6 hours of JD course work can be applied toward the MBA degree
- In 1 of the last 4 law semesters, students may meet their residency requirements by taking 10 or more MBA hours or by taking any combination of MBA and JD courses, as long as the student is registered for at least 10 credit hours
- It is possible to complete both degrees in 3 years, especially if the foundation course work has been completed
M.B.A. Program requirements:
- Students entering the MBA program will need to show evidence that they have completed at least one statistics course in their undergraduate degree. Students without such a class may complete instead a non-credit statistics tutorial offered for a fee by the College of Business.
- 3 MBA Core courses for a total of 9 hours.
- Up to 15 credit hours of MBA Functional Core courses
- JD students will complete the balance of their 33 hours for the MBA degree from concentration courses available in all of the functional business areas, plus 6 hours of JD course work.
J.D. Program requirements:
- 34 hours of first-year required courses
- 22 hours of upperclass required courses
- 38 hours of electives (12 hours may come from MBA course work)
- If transferring in 12 MBA hours, only three other non-classroom credit hours may count toward JD (see Academic Rule 6.8).
- 5 semesters carrying at least 10 hours of JD course work
- 1 semester carrying at least 10 hours of course work in the MBA program or a combination of MBA and JD courses; however, full-time law school tuition is required for this semester
The following is a sample curriculum of how students can complete both degrees simultaneously. In addition to the 33 hours required for the MBA degree, students must also take or have previously completed a business statistics course.
| Fall | Winter | Spring | Summer |
|---|
First Year | 17 Law hrs/0 MBA hrs | 0 MBA hrs | 17 Law hrs/0 MBA hrs | 3 Law hrs/3 MBA hrs |

Financial Implications:
- Students pay the regular full-time law school tuition for 6 semesters
- Students pay the law school summer tuition rate for JD courses taken in the summer
- Students pay the regular hourly rate for 27 MBA hours, including the MBA hours taken in the sixth semester
- This represents a significant tuition savings against what would be paid if the degrees were pursued separately
- JD/MBA students are eligible to apply to the MBA program for scholarship aid (tuition waiver)
- JD/MBA students are eligible to apply for Law School scholarships
