Visiting Students

Summer Programs. The Law School permits students, with the permission of the Dean, to be visiting students for summer programs or interterm session programs only at programs sponsored by law schools approved by both the American Bar Association and the American Association of Law Schools. Credit hours will be transferred into the Law School only for courses approved in advance by the Associate Dean for Academic Affairs and only for courses successfully completed with a grade of "C" (or equivalent) and above. The Law School does not transfer credit for courses graded on a pass/fail basis or its equivalent.

Visiting Students. Except as stated in the prior paragraph, the Law School does not permit students to visit at other law schools except as noted in Academic Rule 7.4.

  7.4      Upon a showing of extraordinary personal hardship, a student who has senior standing with a grade average of at least 2.0 will be granted permission to attend another AALS accredited law school for the purpose of completing his or her third year of law school. Hours completed at that school with a grade of "C" (or equivalent) and above will be applied toward the graduation requirements at Creighton University. The student will remain subject to Creighton University Law School's Academic Rules, including Rule 2.2 (more than 13 hours failure rule).

When a student is permitted to visit at another law school, credit hours will be transferred into the Law School only for courses approved in advance by the Associate Dean for Academic Affairs and only for courses successfully completed with a grade of "C" (or equivalent) and above. The Law School does not transfer credit for courses graded on a pass/fail basis or its equivalent.

The Law School has a student exchange program under agreement with Universidad Pontifica Comillas de Madrid, a Jesuit university with a law program, located in Madrid, Spain. Under that agreement, Creighton Law Students may transfer in credit hours for certain courses taken as part of that program at Comillas. For more details, see Comillas Student Exchange Program.

Transfer Students

Creighton University School of Law (the "Law School") accepts applications for transfer students. Admission of transfer students is determined by the Admissions Committee. When a transfer student is accepted by the Law School, credits for courses completed at another American Bar Association approved law school are transferred in accordance with Academic Rule 7.5.

 7.5       No more than three semesters of residency and no more than 45 credit hours may be transferred from another ABA approved law school. No credit shall be transferred for any course in which a grade of less than C was received. Grades received at another law school shall not be counted in ascertaining the student's cumulative law school average at Creighton.

The Law School only transfers credit for courses completed at law schools approved by the American Bar Association. It does not give law school credit for courses from non-law schools nor does it give credit for courses from law schools not approved by the American Bar Association. The Law School does not transfer credit for courses graded on a pass/fail basis or its equivalent.

The Associate Dean for Academic Affairs determines whether particular transferred courses, in addition to qualifying for credit, also satisfy any of the Law School's mandatory first or second year course requirements.
