Admitted Student Checklist

Please complete the following tasks by the deadlines indicated.  Additional information about each task is listed in the text below.  Failure to complete these tasks may result in a HOLD on your Creighton account.

Seat Deposits (Deadline = April 15, 2013 and June 1, 2013)

In order to reserve a place in the entering class of 2013, you must submit an initial, non-refundable deposit of $250 to the Creighton University School of Law by April 15, 2013, or by the date specified in the "Response to Letter of Acceptance" form in your acceptance packet. If we do not receive your deposit by the date noted, we will conclude that you do not plan to attend the Creighton University School of Law and withdraw your application.  A second, non-refundable deposit of $250 is required by June 1, 2013.  Both deposits will be credited to your tuition account.

You may pay your deposits by credit card via NEST, the Creighton University Student Self Service webpage, which you can link to at thenest.creighton.edu.  A User/Net ID and initial password for NEST are included in your acceptance packet.  If you prefer to pay your deposits by check, please submit your deposits to:
Creighton University
School of Law - Admissions Office
2500 California Plaza
Omaha, NE  68178

Activating Your Net ID for NEST and CU Mail (Deadline = June 1, 2013)

Included in your acceptance packet was a Net ID (network/student ID) and password.  Your Net ID and password will give you access to our student self-service webpage, NEST, which stands for Nearly Every Student Transaction.  Through NEST, you will be able to access and accept your financial aid awards, pay your seat deposits, change your address, access your tuition and fee statement, and view your class schedule (you will be registered for classes in late July).  In addition, in future semesters, you will use NEST to register for classes, as well as to view your class grades.

Your Net ID and password will also give you access to your Creighton email account, CU Mail.  This is a free service to all members of the Creighton community and will be yours throughout your time at Creighton.  Many professors and departments at Creighton will use this account to contact you personally and to send out official information to all students.  Therefore, you are responsible for checking your Creighton email account regularly.  The first email in your account will be a welcome letter from the Division of Information Technology (DoIT) which will tell you how to change your password and what user-friendly name they have assigned to your account (similar to your first name and last name @creighton.edu).

Instructions for activating your Net ID were included on the gold sheet in your acceptance packet.  If you have trouble logging onto your email account, contact the DoIT Help Desk at 402-280-1111.

Submitting FAFSA Data (Deadline = June 1, 2013)

In order to be considered for financial aid, you will need to complete the Free Application for Federal Student Aid (FAFSA) for 2013-2014.  We encourage students to complete the FAFSA online at www.fafsa.ed.gov as soon as possible (after January 1, 2013).  You will need a Department of Education PIN to be able to electronically sign your FAFSA.  If you need a PIN, please go to www.pin.ed.gov to request one.  Creighton's school code is 002542.  After the Creighton Office of Financial Aid receives your financial data from the Department of Education, they will send you an award letter notifying you of your financial aid eligibility and the appropriate loan information.  Financial Aid award letters will begin to go out in late March.  Additional information about applying for financial aid is available at http://www.creighton.edu/financialaid/.  If you have any questions about loan assistance, please contact Creighton's Financial Aid Office toll-free at (800) 282-5835 or via email at gpfinaid@creighton.edu

Accepting Financial Aid Awards (Deadline = July 15, 2013)

Admitted students who authorized release of their FAFSA data to Creighton University should receive a Financial Aid Award letter this spring (after March 30).  To complete the financial aid process, you must accept your aid in NEST and complete the required promissory notes.  (If you have not yet submitted your FAFSA data to Creighton University, we recommend you do so as soon as possible.  Our school code is 002542.  Our Financial Aid Office cannot process an award for you until this data is received.)

Deferment of Current Student Loans

Do you have undergraduate student loans?  After classes begin, Creighton University reports enrollment to the National Student Loan Clearinghouse.  Student loan lenders and servicers have access to this data and will then place student loans in an in-school deferment status.  Creighton University reports enrollment each semester.  If the lender or servicer should send you a deferment form before enrollment is reported, please send the form to the University's Registrar's Office (located on the second floor of Creighton Hall/Administration Building).

Sign up for Direct Deposit (Deadline = August 1, 2013)

If you anticipate receiving proceeds from a loan, you MUST request that the proceeds be directly deposited into your bank account.  Paper refund checks will not be issued.  Please sign up for the direct deposit of your loan proceeds on NEST, thenest.creighton.edu.  Per federal guidelines, the earliest loan proceeds will be available in your bank account is Friday, August 16, 2013.

Tuition Payment (Deadline = August 19, 2013)

In late July, the Creighton University Business Office will be sending an email, notifying students that their statements for tuition and fees are available to view in NEST.  Your scholarships and loans will be applied directly to your tuition and fee account on Thursday, August 15, 2013.

If you anticipate receiving proceeds from a loan, you MUST request that the proceeds be directly deposited into your bank account.  Paper refund checks will not be issued.  Please sign up for the direct deposit of your loan proceeds on NEST, thenest.creighton.edu.  The earliest loan proceeds will be available in your bank account is Friday, August 16, 2013.

If you anticipate having a remaining balance on your tuition and fees (after your financial aid has been applied), you will need to pay your remaining tuition amount by August 19, 2013.  You may pay by electronic check or credit card (MasterCard, Discover, or American Express).  An electronic check will not incur any fees; however, if you choose to pay by credit card, you will be charged a fee of 2.75%.  You may also pay the tuition bill by US mail or at the Business Office Cashier Window in Creighton Hall (the Administration Building-located at the corner of California and 24th Streets).

Immunization and Insurance Requirements (Deadline = August 19, 2013)

In June, our Center for Student Health will be sending information regarding the student immunization and health insurance requirements.  For information regarding required immunizations, please go to: http://www.creighton.edu/chc/healthservices/immunizationrequirements/index.php

All students are required to enter their immunization information into the Immunization Tracker in their NEST account, or they must submit a copy of their immunization records to the Center for Student Health.  Information regarding how to enter immunization information into NEST can be found at:  http://www.creighton.edu/fileadmin/user/StudentServices/HealthCounseling/docs/CUImmunizationTrackerHowto.pdf

Failure to enter your immunization data into NEST or to submit your immunization records to the Center for Student Health by August 19, 2013, will result in a HOLD being placed on your account.  This hold will prevent you from registering for classes.

Creighton University requires all full-time students to have comprehensive health insurance.  Students are automatically enrolled in the University's student health insurance plan.  If you do not wish to enroll in the University's insurance plan, you must submit a waiver request.  Information regarding the health insurance waiver can be found at http://www.creighton.edu/chc/healthservices/insurancerequirements/index.php

For questions regarding immunizations or insurance, please contact our Student Health Center at 402-280-2735, or visit the Center for Student Health and Counseling's website at http://www.creighton.edu/chc/healthservices/.

Final Transcript Requirement (Deadline = August 19, 2013)

The American Bar Association requires that law schools keep on file an official, undergraduate transcript for each student who matriculates to that school, verifying the completion of a bachelor's degree.  If you decide to attend the Creighton University School of Law, please have your undergraduate college or university send us an original, final transcript which reflects that you have earned a bachelor's degree.  This requirement cannot be fulfilled by the transcripts you submitted to the LSAC as part of the law school application process, as the copy we are required to have on file must be an original, official copy. Thus, even if your bachelor's degree was completed prior to your application to our School of Law, an official transcript from your degree-granting institution must still be submitted.  Final transcripts should be sent to:

Creighton University
School of Law - Admissions Office
2500 California Plaza
Omaha, NE  68178

Your official transcript must be received in our office by the first day of classes (August 19, 2013).  If you have any questions concerning the transcript requirement, contact the Law School Admissions Office by phone at 402-280-2586, or by email at lawadmit@creighton.edu.
